What is a symbol or sign? It tells of something which is invisible or invisible from this perspective at this time. They speak to me and instruct me about things not visible, audible or tangible at present. (Give examples from everyday life such as road signs etc.) Symbols;
- Church building. Spire. Cross on building.
- Holy Water font. Sprinkle oneself while making sign of cross and naming the Holy Trinity.
- Sanctuary lamp. Tabernacle. Eucharist the great symbol of Immanuel (God with us).
- Altar. Sacrifice. Crucifix (our sacrifice).
- Pascal Candle. Other candles.
- Baptism Font.
- Stations of Cross.
- Statues. Votive candles.
- Confessional.
- Lectern or pulpit.
The Mass itself is loaded with symbols which one needs to recognise and understand. This is for another day.
