Holy Trinity

May 2010

We are inclined to look on the doctrine of the Holy Trinity as being fairly ethereal and obscure; something for highflying theologians to argue eruditely about.

In fact it is very simple. It means that there is One God who manifests himself in three persons. These three persons are the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The closest we can get to describing the relationship between these three persons or their function within the One God is to compare the Holy Trinity to the human family - the father, the mother and the child.

Trying to describe the relationships within a human family or trying to explain their various functions within the family can be almost impossible as these relationships and functions can vary widely from time to time and in differing situations.

The big thing to grasp is that, like the human family, the Holy Trinity is also a family or a community. This means that it is founded on mutual love, interaction and appreciation.

Any love that is inward looking or exclusive is a distorted and false love.

Love of its nature is outward looking and inclusive. It wants to share this love and draw others into its orbit.

We can see this in the human family where the impetus is to expand - to procreate one, two or more children - and where other people and families are drawn into and included in this family unit and share in its love and mutual appreciation.

This explains for us why the Holy Trinity Family got involved in creating.

Their love and mutual appreciation is, of its nature, outgoing and inclusive and impels it to share everything of itself not only among the Tree Persons but with other beings as well. The only way to expand the Holy Trinity Family is to create other beings who can then share in the life and love of the Holy Trinity. Now as part of the Holy Trinity Family we can inherit the Kingdom of God.

So I can say that the reason for creation, the reason for my existence is only to be found in the Holy Trinity Family and in the mutual love and appreciation within that Family which impels it to create and share everything it has with other things.

In a nutshell; The very thing that impelled you to procreate a child is what impelled God to create you.
