Epiphany 2008
January 2008
The word Epiphany is, I believe, a Greek word meaning an appearance, a manifestation, a sudden revelation or insight into the nature, essence or meaning of something.
I have an Epiphany for you today.
It is the Epiphany of a wish list.
Firstly. I wish, above all else, that I could introduce you to the God I worship; The God of freedom.
The God I worship hasn’t the remotest interest in what I was, what I did or didn’t do in the past. God is focused on my total wellbeing (body and soul) at this moment. God’s dearest wish is that I trust Him and allow him to reveal Himself to me.
Secondly. I wish that all so-called ‘Holy Places’ such as Jerusalem, the Vatican City, Mecca etc. etc. could be bulldozed level, covered with tarmac and turned into car parks. If this happened world religions might make some progress towards mutual understanding.
Thirdly. I wish that I could fully realise that everything I possess is a free gift from God; given into my stewardship for distribution to those in need. That I begin to understand, that need exists in the world today, partly because of my failure to exercise this stewardship.
Fourthly. I wish that the Catholic Church realise that the sacrament of Baptism is far more important than the Sacrament of Holy Orders. That the weekly Eucharistic celebrations be presided over by someone chosen by the congregation without regard for apparent status or gender.
Fifthly. I wish that every one of you could understand that nobody has the power or the right to forbid any Catholic from receiving the Eucharist.
Sixthly. I wish you all good health, inner peace and spiritual freedom for the year 2008.
