Baptism of the Lord

Last week we had the Feast of the Epiphany. The child Jesus was shown to be not only the King of the Jews but the king of the Gentiles also.
Today’s feast of the Baptism of the Lord is another epiphany. Jesus is revealed in today’s readings ( especially the first reading) to be the King who rules not by power and might ( as the Israelites were expecting) but by obedience to the Fathers will and service, gentleness and justice for all.
