Thirty-third of of Year A
October 2011
The man going on the journey is Jesus of Nazareth.
He gives each of us different abilities or charisms.
Some of us have or develop a certain loyalty or gratitude to Jesus. We freely seek to promote the interests of Jesus - the Kingdom of God. We willingly use our abilities to promote these interests in a personally creative way, that is as each one perceives and understands it.
Some of us take a different approach. We are fearful, cautious, and ambivalent in our approach to Jesus of Nazareth. We feel no connection with the promotion of the Kingdom of God - with the interests of Jesus of Nazareth. Our behaviour is not motivated by loyalty but by fear of the Master. We seek our own security as first priority. We concentrate on doing nothing wrong. We seek refuge in what we always did and avoid change and risk.
Which of these groups is commended by the Master?
To which group do I belong?
While I listen to a piece of music let me ponder these two questions.
